After more than 15 years of teaching in French regional conservatories, Jean-François was appointed professor of singing at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. There he supervises the higher education curriculum of young singers from all over the world. Many of them have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in singing and are preparing for international competitions, passing auditions for professional choirs (choir of La Monnaie, Opéra royal de Wallonie, Opéra national de Paris) or for programmes for young singers (MMAcademy, Queen Elisabeth Chapel, opera workshops).
He has directed and staged more than ten opera productions in a pedagogical context with young singers in training.
Jean-François ROUCHON has taught at the Nice Summer Academy, the Nancy Academy, the Greater Paris Academy and the La Chaise-Dieu Academy. He has been regularly invited to give masterclasses at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Nantes and regularly travels to Japan to give public classes in various halls and universities (Kyoto University of the Arts, Osaka, Tokyo). Highly appreciated for his knowledge of lied and melody, he is particularly fond of exploring with young singers the relationship between poetry and music.
Since 2018, Jean-François ROUCHON has invested in the field of online vocal teaching. Relying on the most advanced technical tools and a solid experience, he is convinced that distance learning can be a remarkable asset to ensure a discovery and a pedagogical follow-up for singers from all over the world. Together with his students, he has succeeded in breaking down the image of a cold and limited videoconference to take advantage of all the benefits offered by the new technologies.
